Due to several days of wet weather, a damp surface awaited the teams and the conditions promised to be challenging. However, SG BiBo arrived with a full squad and unadulterated anticipation.

In their first game of the tournament, SG BiBo faced the hosts, SG Darm Magie, straight away. Although the hosts managed to score the first try of the game, our players did not allow themselves to be rattled. Melanie (Bielefeld) responded to the opponents’ try, and Fredda (Bonn) then added another.
Our second try was not long in coming either. Scored by Henriette (Bi), it was added to by Fredda before the first half came to an end.
In the second half, a scrum for our side provided the template for Fredda to score the third and final try of the game. A yellow card for repeated foul play by our opponents meant that SG BiBo were outnumbered at the end of the game. This, together with a solid defense, allowed us to maintain our lead and finish the game with our first win of the tournament and a final score of 19:05.

In the second game against SG Kaisersbrücken, the first try was scored by Sina (Bo) and was then added to by Priscilla (Bi). The two teams fought hard for every advantage, and in the end one of our players was sent off with a yellow card for a foul.<x id="gid_0"></x>At the start of the second half, SG BiBo therefore only had six players on the pitch for the time being. Despite the disadvantage, our side managed not only to defend their half of the pitch, but also to push the opposing team back, whereupon Fredda scored the second try of the game.
At the time of this interruption, Melanie was able to make up for the numerical disadvantage, but shortly afterwards another SG BiBo player was sent off, meaning that our players were still outnumbered. However, this did not stop SG BiBo from pushing forward again and breaking down the opposing defense in such a way that Fredda managed to score two tries in quick succession, both of which she scored herself. The second game ended successfully with a final score of 26:0 and SG BiBo reached the final against Düsseldorf.

In their final game of the day, SG started strongly with a try from Anna (Bo) thanks to solid preparatory work from Ana (Bo) and Fredda, but without scoring. This led to an intense exchange of blows between the two teams. The duel around the halfway line showed that the teams were quite evenly matched, but eventually some of the SG players began to show signs of fatigue. A final yellow card was awarded to our team for a foul and, thanks to the numerical advantage and their consistently strong performance, Düsseldorf managed to break through just before the end of the half and score their first try of the game.

In the second half, our opponents remained strong and scored two more tries, albeit without scoring. The teams continued to be worthy opponents and fought hard to control the flow of the game.
Finally, SG made another breakthrough on the right wing. After pushing forward twice directly from the ruck, Fredda kicked the ball over the opposing defensive line. In a quick-witted move, she followed up, caught the ball herself and, after a final sprint, deposited it on the far right of the pitch.
So this extremely exciting final ended with a deserved victory for Düsseldorf and a tight final score of 17:10, and SG BiBo more than deserved second place.

Particularly noteworthy is the strong forward performance, which was rewarded by Coach Golden with the Panda and Hammer of the Day for Annika, who is finally back after a long break, and Ana, who played her first tournament for the Pandas. Fredda’s remarkable chip kick also earned her a Skill of the Day award.

We would like to thank our dear SG partner from Bielefeld for always playing at our side, SG Darm Magie for organizing the tournament, all participating teams for the great tournament, as well as our referee for refereeing all six games and, with a wink, for teaching us the rules. In this respect, the tournament was probably a lesson for all teams.

Awards:
Panda of the Day: Annika
Hammer of the Day: Ana
Skill of the Day: Fredda

Text: Ella von der Eltz
Photos: Anke Rolfes

Strong performance at the Autumn Cup is rewarded with 2nd place On November 1st, the Painless Pandas, as always as part of the Bielefeld/Bonn (SG BiBo) syndicate, met up with three other teams in Marburg for this year’s Autumn Cup.
