Last week SG Rheinland welcomed Bonn to their home ground, but this week they are visiting Bonn for a great day of rugby. After a 32-10 win for Bonn in the first leg, the return match was eagerly awaited. This game against the same opponents is a perfect opportunity for RCBRS to continue to prove themselves and build on their positive momentum after a great start to the season.
Kick-off was at 2pm in similar weather conditions to last week: gray skies, no rain and a soft pitch. However, these were to deteriorate significantly towards rain as the game progressed.

As both teams had played each other the previous week, both coaches and players knew what to expect from their opponents, so there was no need for a real round of observation. Even though Bonn had been the first team to score and take the lead last week, no two rugby games are the same. This time the visitors scored the first points through a penalty kick, 0:3 for SG Rheinland. However, this first penalty kick just a few minutes into the game did not discourage the Lions, Bonn reacted quickly and Dylan, our number nine on the day, scored the first try of the day. Bonn were now in the lead on the scoreboard, but unfortunately the conversion kick was missed and the score remained 5-3. Just like last week, both teams played well and defended with great intensity. However, Bonn managed to keep possession of the ball for longer, which allowed them to build up their attacking phases.
Within minutes, the home side managed to score two tries through Matt and Golden, both of which were increased by our captain Johni! Similar to last week, tries were scored by both backs and forwards, reflecting well on the balance, reliability and variety of play within the team. The score at half time was now 19-3, just like last week!

The second half was the perfect opportunity for the hosts to score more points, secure the bonus and show 80 minutes of strong rugby. The Lions were determined to win this game in front of their fans on their home ground. Both teams had a strong start to the second half. The Bonn defense managed to withstand the pressure from SG Rheinland and prevent a try. As in the first half, Bonn managed to retain possession and put pressure on the visitors’ defense. After a few pick-and-go plays, Ansgar scored the first try for Bonn in the second half, again with a fine conversion from Johni. The score was now 26:3 for Bonn! In the end, the Lions were able to put seven points on the scoreboard after Johni’s try and increase the score to 31:3. However, the game was not over yet and SG Rheinland continued to fight and scored seven more points with a well-deserved try and a good conversion shortly before the end. The final result of the game was very similar to last week. Bonn won 31:10 on home turf thanks to a strong team performance in attack and defense, both from the forwards and the backs!

Once again this week we would like to thank SG Rheinland for making the trip to Bonn and making this great day of rugby possible. The return game on our home pitch was just as entertaining as the game the previous week. We would also like to thank the referee Aschi, who stepped in at short notice, without whom the game would have had to be canceled, and all our fans and supporters who came to the game to support our Lions. As always, special thanks also go to Alf and everyone who helped and supported us on and off the pitch.

Awards:
Hammer of the Day – Michael.
Man of the Match – Golden.

Starting Lineup
1 – Golden
2 – Vernon
3 – Robert
4 – Max W.
5 – Lutz
6 – Max O.
7 – Nassim
8 – Timo
9 – Dylan
10 – Daniel
11 – Sven
12 – Matt
13 – Ansgar
14 – Jonas
15 – John

Finishers:
16 – Marcel
17 – Cihan
18 – Christo
19 – Michael
20 – David
21 – Francesco
22- Josh

Text: Vincent Martinet
Photos: Anke Rolfes

At the start of the second half of the series, the Lions will once again face SG Rheinland Still unbeaten this season and top of the table, Rugby Bonn Club Rhein Sieg will be looking to continue their winning streak this weekend against SG Rheinland.
