SG BiBo (Bielefeld-Bonn) got into the game better in fantastic weather and were able to break through the Dragonetts’ defensive line four times with strong runs. However, the Dragonetts also kept at it and were able to run into the SG’s malfield twice, keeping the game exciting until the last minute. Even though SG ended up with a win, there was still plenty of room for improvement for the rest of the tournament. The second match of the day was against the home team and last year’s tournament winners, SG BOB (Bremen-Oldenburg-Braunschweig). The hosts clearly outplayed their opponents here and so, after SG BiBo scored two more tries, they still went down to a clear defeat by 14:47. In this game, however, some of the mistakes from the first game had already been improved and the positive team development was not to end there.

In the semi-finals, the young Wiedenbrück team, who were unbeaten in the group stage and had often suffered narrow defeats in previous tournaments, awaited. The SG coaching team had some good tactical tips to pass on and a hard-fought game developed with lots of good playful actions and tough tackles. Although the fast opponents managed to break through time and again, the SG was also able to score again in the paint field, so that at the end of the game the team unfortunately lost 5:31 after a tough battle. The coaches also thought it was a great team performance against the eventual tournament winners! However, the greatest praise probably came from the opponents themselves, who acknowledged that it was the most exhausting game of the day for them.

Unfortunately, the team ran out of steam in the last game and lost to SV Odin 0:27.

All in all, however, it was enough for a strong 4th place and it was pleasing that, apart from the usual injuries, everyone was able to return home safely. Particularly noteworthy are the incredibly strong tackles by Anna (Hammer), who was able to stop the one or other breakthrough of the opponents and the great performance of Cora (player of the day) from Osnabrück, who played great no matter which position she was used in and was able to shine especially at the center position. But Fredda, who returned from injury and a cold, was also a valuable building block in the scoring process time and again.

A big thank you goes to the women from Bremen for the great tournament organization and to Lisa and Anke from Bonn and Rosie from Bremen for taking over the division management this season. But of course also to the coaches Golden, Thibault and Darren and Benilde and Mia for their support. Our congratulations go to the winners from Wiedenbrück.

In mid-June, they will now head to Karlsruhe for the final tournament to take on the teams from the south for the Shield trophy. Apart from the Düsseldorf team, numerous new opponents await.

Text: Anke Rolfes
Photos: Katja Nitzsche

Last national tournament before the final phase for SG BiBo On April 26, the Pandas traveled to Bremen for their next tournament in the supra-regional phase of the North/West B division.
