The opponent for the last home game of the regular season was RC Paderborn last Saturday. After losing the first leg, the Bonn Lions were eager for the chance to get revenge on their own court and began the game with a corresponding level of commitment and concentration. So the first points in the Rheinauen also belonged to Bonn after captain Johannes Dziuba put a penalty kick on the sticks. However, they conceded the first try of the game just a short time later and fell behind. An open and evenly-matched game then developed, in which Bonn’s attack was still searching for the right rhythm. Although the visitors were able to stop some good phases with spirited tackles or turnovers, they still lacked the final punch when in possession. So it was Paderborn again who, after a penalty bounced off the sticks, were able to use another scrum just before the try line as a platform for their second try. Afterwards, the RCBRS continued to be a little too hectic in its own possession and was unable to find the gaps in Paderborn’s disciplined defense. At the other end, the L\u00f6wendefensive then failed to retreat consistently and quickly enough when the visitors attacked again, which RC Paderborn punished with a quick break and the resulting try increased the score to 3:19 going into the break.<\/p>\n
At the start of the second half, RCBRS made a clear effort to close the gap and gradually gained the upper hand in the game after kicking off. After some initial approaches, full-back Memphis Noble finally scored the long-awaited follow-up try for Bonn. From then on, the RCBRS played like a new team. The forward line and backline repeatedly worked together to create good starting positions and put the visitors under increasing pressure. After a remarkable breakthrough, winger Harry Day scored the deserved try to make it 15:19. Now the RCBRS didn’t let up: after a release kick, Golden Ibe made an important tackle and the backline was able to take advantage of the pressure that had built up, allowing Johannes Dziuba to dive into the paint to give Bonn the much-acclaimed lead. The Lions then repeatedly established themselves in Paderborn’s half thanks to the clever kicking game of link-up man Philipp Gerbecks and, at the same time, did not allow anything to break down in their own defense. This was followed in quick succession by two more tries from Ricardo Andrade and Georg Stickler. Johannes Dziuba again scored the final points after a strong run from the backline, making the final score 37:19 for the Lions. As the final whistle blew, the joy over the strong performance, especially in the second half, and the well-deserved home win was released. The boys will take a lot of confidence from this game into the next match.<\/p>\n
