Successful performance of the Bonn Lynx at the German Touch Rugby Championship<\/strong><\/h1>\n

On 15 and 16.10. this year’s German Touch Rugby Championship took place. This was held at FC Schwalbe in Hanover. In the now autumnal freshness, our Bonn Lynx entered together with Cologne and support from Lockers from Munich as SG. Due to the weather conditions, the start of the tournament had to be moved back one hour. The sun did its best to dry the puddles on the otherwise immaculate lawn and so the tournament started at 11 am. Right in the opening game it was against the eventual tournament winner, Berlin’s 1st team (Berlin Pink). The SG, which had never played with this line-up before, did well. However, the Berliners were able to skillfully exploit their playing experience and technical ability. Despite the 11:1 defeat, this first game was considered a successful start to the tournament. In the second group match they faced the hosts from Hannover. Here the chances for points were good. As we all know, it’s hardest to play against equal opponents, so this game was a real test. While the SG made great strides in their understanding of the game over the course of the season, the match against Hannover proved to be a challenge, with distinct traits of rugby union still coming through in the opposition. This did not make it easy to set up the game as planned. In the end, however, this game was won with (3:2). In the last group game, the opponents were Eintracht Frankfurt, the eventual runners-up of the tournament. Now rehearsed after the first two games and knowing that it would be the last game for the day, our SG gave it their all again and delivered their best game of the day. Despite the 4:7 defeat a great success. The first day of the tournament ended with pizza and watching rugby together with all the teams. Sunday morning greeted everyone with a fresh 6 degrees and unfortunately no sun, but that should not be an obstacle to a successful touch day. As third in the group, the SG played the first game against the SG Heidelberg\/Lippstadt and also like against Hannover, we had a hard time here and also the referees didn’t seem to be on our side. In the end, however, the game was deservedly won 3:0. So the last match of the DM was on and it was about the 5th place against Stuttgart. It was virtually a small finale and at least as exciting. After a hard fight, the game ended in a 5:5 draw after regulation time, so it came to the drop off. Each team reduces its number of players from 6 to 4. During the first two minutes of the drop off, the game continues as normal, i.e. both teams can score tries. If no team is leading at the end of the time, the number of players is reduced to 3 and the first team to score wins. But we didn’t want it to come to that. Stuttgart had the tap off of the drop off, but acted a bit haphazardly and thus did not manage to score. The following SG attack ended in a line attack, which was resolved via a play through the hands to the other side and ended in a try. The remaining seconds of the minutes were now about defending the score. With combined forces they succeeded and so they were happy about the 6:5 victory and the achieved 5th place. The 5th place, also plate, was rewarded with an actual glass plate that our coach for this tournament, JC, got to take home. Congratulations to James, Paddy, Thomas, Elias, Ian and Fredda (Bonn), Ute, Marilena, Anna, Pia, Chrissie, Roman and JC (Cologne) and Lockers (Munich). Congratulations also to Fredda, who was voted female MVP of the tournament by all teams.<\/p>\n
