Match report for RCBRS against D\u00fcsseldorf Dragons on 7.10.2023<\/p>\n
For the second match of the 2023\/24 season, the Rugby Club from D\u00fcsseldorf, an old acquaintance from the Second Bundesliga, was a guest in Bonn. The memories of the close and tough games in the past were both a warning and motivation for the L\u00f6wen for the renewed encounter in the regional league. That both sides had planned a lot for the game was then also noticeable from the beginning. After the Lions had kicked the ball out of the Dragons’ own 22, an open exchange of blows developed between the two 10m lines in the first few minutes, in which neither team was able to gain the upper hand decisively. Characterized by a few penalty kicks and many lanes, the game shuttled back and forth mainly between the two 22m lines until D\u00fcsseldorf put a penalty kick on the bars at the Bonn 22 in the 20th minute and took the lead. For the rest of the first half, both sides made only occasional forays into the red zone, which were ended either by good defensive actions or own ball losses, so that it went into the break with the score 0:3. This picture did not change fundamentally at the beginning of the second half, consequently, the Lions in the person of kicker Jan Unkelbach also used a penalty kick in the 53rd minute on the poles to equalize. After the restart, however, it didn’t take long for RCBRS to break free for the first time after a scrum over the backs and they were only stopped just short of the penalty spot. With the goal in sight, it was finally striker Sam Schr\u00f6der who carried the ball over the line for the cheered attempt, the increase from an acute angle failed. But the visitors from the state capital were not shocked by this and came back to within one point of the home side with a converted penalty kick just five minutes later.
\nAlso due to many technical mistakes and interruptions, both teams neutralized each other and fought hard for every meter of space. Even after a yellow card against D\u00fcsseldorf, the young Bonn team was not able to take advantage of this to take the decision. Thanks to the united and disciplined defensive performance, the score remained at 8:6 and the Bonn Lions were able to celebrate their first home victory. It remains to be said that both teams with numerous new players showed a courageous performance and the Lions can be particularly proud of their standard situations. With this win behind us, we’ll head to Paderborn for an away game in two weeks.<\/p>\n
