A promising start<\/strong><\/h2>\n

To start the new regional league season, the RCBRS received the second team of the RSV Cologne in bright rugby weather on Saturday for the local derby in the Rheinauen in Bonn. In joyful anticipation of the spectacle of the professionals in Saint-Denis in the evening, the spectators should at least in terms of excitement also truly not come up short in Bonn. After an intensive preparation, the Lions, who had several new additions, had set their sights high for the start of the league and were put to a tough test of character right at the start. After just two minutes played, the Cologne team was able to dive into the penalty area for a try with the advantage behind them, and the raise kick was also successful. This early setback had to be digested by the young Bonn team, led by captain Florian Korbmacher, before a converted penalty kick by Jan Unkelbach in the eighth minute provided the connection and moral rehabilitation. From now on, the game was largely even, with a slight offensive edge for the Cologne team. However, both teams acted a bit too erratically in their own possession in the decisive moments, which is why the respective attacks were frequently interrupted by knock-ons. It was not until 30 minutes into the game that it was again Cologne who were able to put the next points on the board with a penalty kick. Spurred on by this, it ushered in the Lions’ best phase to date. Led by the forwards, who were able to build up pressure through good standard situations and hard runs, the Bonners established themselves in the Cologne half. Even after losing the ball, they managed to quickly switch to defense and usually recover the ball quickly. Unfortunately, they did not reward themselves with a try in this phase, also because the Cologne defense held up well. However, after a pressure-packed ten minutes, Unkelbach converted a second penalty kick to make the halftime score 6-10.<\/p>\n

RSV then got the better start in the second half. After several scrums in the Bonn half, the Lions first managed the turn-over just before their own mall line by Nico Hochgeschwender, but after the subsequent alley, the Cologne team broke through the sacrificially fighting defense and scored their second try, to which they also managed the increase. After the kick-off, it was again RCBRS who gained the momentum with strong ball carries. After a first combination of the backline still failed narrowly, it was in the 58th minute first row striker Nish Nallawangsa who put the much-celebrated Bonner attempt. The increase by Unkelbach also succeeded. As a result, the defensive lines of both teams withstood the opponent’s pressure with some strong tackles. It wasn’t until the 70th minute that RCBRS put a penalty kick on the sticks to get within one point of Cologne. Accordingly, the last ten minutes of the game were full of suspense, in which the young RCBRS team unfortunately had to swallow first in the 75th minute the first and virtually with the final whistle still a second not increased attempt of the cleverly playing Cologne. Even though the game was lost 16:27, the Bonn men will take a lot of positives from this performance into the next home game on 7.10. against D\u00fcsseldorf.<\/p>\n
